2020 Repairs

Even before the new decade, I started turning my attention to the top side of Jade, since it seemed like the bulk of the engine work was done. First up was getting the cabin door and sashes replaced. Note: I am really not sure that "sash" is the right nomenclature.

I brought my old, disintegrating cabin door sections into Yukon Lumber, where they manufactured solid teak wood sections and cut them to size. I will admit that although I do well with metal and engine repair, I’m not so handy with woodworking - not to mention the cost of teak if I messed up. I did have to sand (and slightly round) and varnish the pieces, though.

As mentioned earlier, I decided to replace the the "cold section" of the Water Lift Muffler to try and solve intermittent overheating of the engine. The old hose was 12 foot long and 1-1/2 inch diameter. When the new hose was delivered, I found it was a 2 inch diameter hose, so I opted to get a set of Gates™ hose reducers and a pair of beefy T-Bolt Clamps (instead of normal hose clamps) for both ends. When tested, there were no leaks, and the water flow actually seems to have increased. Although the inside of the old hose showed no breakdown, it is a possibility that a kink develops when exhaust gasses heat it up.
