Jade in Reedville

Jade is my first cruising sailboat I’ve owned, which has been a life long dream of mine. I’ve created this site to share my journeys and progress with this 1975 Pearson 33, part of a promise I made to the former owners. There will be updates, with pictures, of repairs and maintenance, with some tips and lessons learned for fellow yachtsmen.

Introduction

Jade started life in Portsmouth, Rhode Island as Hull #269. According to the owner's manual, the first owner named her My Evy and kept her at the Miramar Yacht Club in Sheepshead Bay, NY. I was told the next owner renamed her Jade, an acronym for his sons John, Andrew, David, and Edward, and she had Hershey, PA marked as her home port. The third generation of owners, who I bought Jade from, kept the boat in Burgess, VA. I sailed her down to her new home port - Urbanna, VA.

Currently...

Jade is moored at a slip at Bridges Marina in Urbanna, VA. The engine, a Universal Atomic 4 (gasoline engine), has just had a major overhaul of the cooling water system due to overheating, and the cylinder head was replaced due to a cracked head. The water pump was overhauled, the engine was de-scaled and repainted. It looks fantastic for a forty-five year old engine!

Electrical Drawing - Link to Original Boat Manuals

As much as I've learned about Jade, there’s probably ten times as much that I've researched. There isn't much specific information about the Pearson 33 out on the web, so I'm trying to do my part in getting my lessons learned and the boat's manuals and drawings out there.

Here’s a short list of information I have made into electronic format that aren’t on the internet:
