2019 Repairs

Finally, the engine was put back together and ran! And it looks pretty, too! Now to work on other projects...

Or so I thought. Overheating kept occuring... But I found after bypassing the cooling water around the water lift muffler that all worked fine, so I reasoned that there was a blockage downstream from the outlet of the engine. I removed the muffler components, cleaned them up, and reinstalled them - from the engine to the muffler outlet. To head off future problems, I installed a three-way valve at both the inlet and the outlet, to (1) facilitate flushing the engine, and (2) bypass the muffler, respectively.

I was sailing her starting Memorial Day weekend (one year anniversary of the fiasco sail from Reedville). I found time to fix the fresh water system pump, which had earlier come apart (luckily I found the small pulley in the bilge!) and overhauled the manual, built-in bilge pump with a repair kit (the Irish pump manufacturer, Whale, is still cranking them out). It pumps so well that I haven’t installed the 12 Volt pump yet! I also overhauled two spare carburetors, and re-wired the engine electrical system - adding a common bus for the ignition circuit. I even found a replacement Ritchie Globemaster™ SP-5 Compass on eBay.
